Cases being intervened by the Commission

ASCPCR (c) 49/2017 == Case related to kidnapping of a minor girl in Cachar

In the month of June, 2017, a two year old girl child, was kidnapped, allegedly by her own maidservant, from the staff quarter of Assam UniversitySilchar, where her mother works. A case was registered on the same day, June 5th, with Silchar Police, No. 1247/2017 u/s 120 (b), 364 (A).

The concerned aunt of the childwrote to the Hon’ble minister, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, and the matter was forwarded to Chairperson NCPCR. The NCPCR directed the ASCPCR to intervene immediately and report the developments to NCPCR.

The ASCPCR took Suo Moto notice of the incident registered the case vide No. ASCPCR (c) 49/2017, on June 7th and Chairperson, ASCPCR, Dr. SunitaChangkakati immediately wrote to DC Cahcar and SP Cachar to expedite the process of rescue and recovery of the child.

Search continued in Border areas of Assam Meghalaya, Mizoram and Manipur. On June 8, the Commission received information of CCTV footage showing the child in ASTC, Guwahati. The commission intervened and requested the Police Commissioner to allow the footage to be shown to parents. But, when parents watched the footage, it was found that the child was not theirs.

Finally the child was recovered from a Saloon in Kleiriahat, East Jayantia Hills on June 11th. The DCPO Cachar submitted its report on the case to ASCPCR. The Commission also submitted its report on the case to NCPCR.
