Case related to rape of a minor girl by a religious Monk in Tinsukia District of Upper Assam

A twelve year old,Tangsa girl from Lakla, was raped by a Buddhist Monk in August 2017.The chairperson, on her visit to Upper Assam, took statement of the child and also met her parents, and took details of the incident. A case was registered at the Digboi PS. The Chairperson also met the OC Mahesh Ch. Bora and other Investigating staff in the case.

The child was raped by a man who was staying at a Monastery disguising himself as a Buddhist Monk but further investigations revealed that was possibly not a Monk but a Bangladeshi Drug peddler and trafficker.

The accused arrested with assistance from villagers. Case registered under POCSO section 8.The Chairperson assured help and assistance to the family in the case. The Chair person immediately wrote to and spoke to the DC Tinsukia, SP and MLA, to intervene in the case and investigate the case well for getting the guilty punished soon.

The case is under progress. The child is safe and back in school, and the accused in jail.
