Observation of National Girl Child Day on January 24, 2018 at Rukmini Gaon Balika Vidyalaya, Guwahati

Assam State Commission for protection of Child Rights celebrated ‘National Girl Child Day’ on January 24, at Rukmini Gaon Balika Vidyalaya along with the teachers and students.

The ASCPCR team included Chairperson Dr. Sunita Changkakati, Member Ms Rupa Hazarika and staff Sumindra Bhuyan. Ms Rupa Hazarika, used the occasion to emphasize on Rights of the Girl Child, importance of girls building their career well apart from being alert about their safety. She also mentioned about the various Acts related to child rights.

The Chairperson, Dr Sunita Changkakati, explained why the National Girl Child Day is celebrated since 2009 and spoke of good touch and bad touch. She shared some memories and incidents from her childhood days basically explaining how girls need to give priority to their safety and wellbeing but also be brave. By setting example of Malala Yousafzai the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, known for the advocacy of education of women and children.

The children presented dance and songs. The meeting concluded by a recitation of the poem ‘Kanchanjanghar Buranji’ by Sumindra Bhuyan.
