    A Significant Step Towards Safeguarding Assam’s Children

    On 29 May 2026, Rilanjana Talukdar, Member, Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR), had the honour of meeting the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and submitted the “Situational Analysis Report on Drugs, Narcotics and Substance Abuse by Children and Adolescents: Unravelling Challenges Encountered in Assam.”

    The report, prepared through extensive research, consultations, and field experiences by Member of ASCPCR under the aegis of ASCPCR presents a comprehensive assessment of the growing challenge of drug and substance abuse among children and adolescents in Assam. It highlights critical concerns, emerging trends, and actionable recommendations to strengthen prevention, protection, rehabilitation, and child welfare mechanisms across the State.

    The submission of this report to the Hon’ble Chief Minister marked a significant milestone in the collective endeavour to address substance abuse among young people and to safeguard the rights, well-being, and future of Assam’s children. It reflects ASCPCR’s unwavering commitment to evidence-based advocacy and policy interventions aimed at creating a safer and healthier environment for every child.
